As the Colts get ready to kickoff the post-season, their coach's battle with leukemia continues to be an inspiration.
But, Chuck Pagano says he also gained inspiration from some of the smallest Colts fans.
24-Hour News 8 spoke with one teen who took on leukemia herself - and now is looking to take on yet another feat.
Few can forget 15 year old Mickey Deputy's words to NFL coach Chuck Pagano, when she met him in December.
?One of the things I said to him was, I?ve been through this. I beat it, and you can beat it too,? said Mickey Deputy, in an interview with 24-Hour News 8.
Mickey's journey has been nothing but inspiring, she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2004 at age seven.
?She has overcome from day one, from the day she was born,? said her mother Jenny. ?She was born blue, and overcame heart surgery. All through her life, she has overcome every milestone that has come up in front of her.?
Mickey?s been cancer free since 2007, but hasn?t stopped inspiring others. She shaved her head for Coach Pagano this fall, and now,
?I?m planning to do a marathon with my mommy,? said Mickey.
She and her mom have a brand new, New Years resolution.
They're starting to train for the Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco this October.
Their fundraising goal?
For "Team Mickey" to raise $100,000 dollars to fund a research grant in her name. She plans to name the grant after a baby she met in the hospital when she was diagnosed. That small baby passed away from his cancer.
?I had cancer, and I want to find a cure, because I want nobody to suffer what I've been through,? said Mickey.
?We?ve never said you can't do anything because of a disability. We?ve never expected less of her, but what she's doing is far beyond what we ever would have expected. The fact she's taking this on, committing to training? it?s proud for us? also very humbling that we get to be a part of this,? said Jenny.
They're training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Team in Training.
