NOPD books woman accused of kidnapping 3-year-old girl | NOLA ...

The NOPD arrested a 23-year-old woman on Saturday night who is accused of kidnapping a 3-year-old girl from her St. Claude home. Kentrell Harris was booked into the Orleans Parish jail on a charge of aggravated kidnapping of a child, said officer Garry Flot, spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department.

After seeing photos of Harris on the news, a man called police around 10:30 p.m. to report Harris being at his home in the 1900 block of North Galvez Street. The girl, Dajanae Brady, was checked out by Emergency Medical Services and found to be in good health, Flot said. She was returned to her parents.

While being questioned by police, Harris insisted she had permission to take the child.

Both had been missing since Monday, when police said Harris picked up the girl about 10 a.m. at her father's house in the 2200 block of Gallier Street. Harris told the girl's father that her grandmother asked Harris to take her to the grandmother's house on Pauline Street, police said.

The father told police that the family had known Harris for five years and allowed her to pick up the child in the past. But he learned Friday that the grandmother did not have Dajanae and had not asked or permitted Harris to pick her up.
