iPhone 4 international unlock question

I need this question answered quickly. So i contacted Sprint ask them to unlock my phone so i can use international sim. They said sure but for you to be able to use it, i will have to update to latest iPhone version and I do not want to do that.

are they lying, it doesn't make sense as to why updating to the latest version will enable the unlock on their side to my phone. also is there a way to be able to use the unlock without updating to latest version?

Vickie Guerrero: The best choice for permanent GM?

Vickie Guerrero judges herself after her week as Interim General Manager: WWE.com Exclusive, June 29, 2012In the midst of a heated argument, Vickie Guererro slaps Dolph Ziggler: SmackDown, June 29, 2012SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero strips The Undertaker of the World Heavyweight Title: SmackDown, May 9, 2008Vickie Guerrero puts family first over Rey Mysterio: SmackDown, August 25, 2006Vickie Guerrero "punishes" Edge for his actions at Survivor Series: SmackDown, November 23, 2007Divas Summertime Beach Battle Royal: Raw, June 25, 2012Jack Swagger begs Vickie Guerrero for a United States Championship Match for Raw: WWE.com Exclusive, June 25, 2012

While some people like to play things close to the vest, others just can?t help but voice their every want and desire. The latter is definitely the case when it comes to Vickie Guerrero, as became abundantly clear this past week.

No one could ever accuse this week?s interim Raw and SmackDown General Manager of being subtle, and, true to form, Vickie once again showed her hand Friday on SmackDown. Announcing in no uncertain terms that it?s her goal to become the permanent GM of both shows, Guerrero alerted the WWE Universe to her long-term game plan.

Vickie, who cites both her prior experience in the role and her "creativity" while at the helm of the two shows, has time and time again shown a willingness to do whatever it takes to get the gig. In an attempt to curry favor with the WWE Board of Directors ? who will ultimately make the final call when it comes to choosing the GM on the 1,000th episode of Raw ? Vickie shared, in a WWE.com exclusive video, what she gave the WWE group of head honchos to increase her chances at landing the desired position.

While WWE?s resident Cougar may not be the first choice among many members of the WWE Universe, Vickie just may be the person best suited to grab hold of the reins left idle in the wake of John Laurinaitis? firing by Mr. McMahon at No Way Out. Guerrero?s resume certainly speaks to her ability to handle the GM role ? having served in that capacity on both Raw and SmackDown in the past. So, perhaps she is the right woman for the job.

Vickie appears to be already accumulating the endorsements in her favor, as both Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan have publicly lauded her efforts. By that same token, however, The Showoff found out Friday night that even those on good terms with the would-be GM might not be invulnerable to her wrath. When Guerrero shockingly slapped Ziggler, she demonstrated the type of iron fist-like rule that she is capable of imposing while in a position of authority ? a trait that may be necessary to successfully steering the dual-show ship.

Additionally, Vickie?s a proven decision maker, as made evident by the monumental Triple Threat Title Match she made for this week?s SmackDown main event. She certainly has no qualms when it comes to dealing with a dissenting fan base.

While she?s made no secret in her vying for the opportunity to take back both SmackDown and Raw as permanent GM, wanting and doing are two very different things. As such, the future of Vickie Guerrero ? and the entire WWE roster, for that matter ? will be uncertain until the Board makes its final decision.

Worker admits stealing card, racking up $4K playing Facebook games

POSTED: Friday, June 29, 2012 - 1:45pm

UPDATED: Friday, June 29, 2012 - 1:49pm

A hotel worker in Montgomery County is accused of stealing a customer's credit card and then charging more than $4,000 playing games on Facebook.

On Nov. 18, 2011 an Illinois woman was traveling to Florida and stopped for the night at the Super 8 Motel in Clarksville on Holiday Drive.

Police said the woman paid for the room using a credit card, but her information was copied and later used without her permission.

When the victim looked at her March 1, 2012, credit card statement, there were 42 fraudulent transactions totaling $4,159.99 between Feb. 1 and 17.

The victim filed a report with her local police department in Washington, IL, who conducted an investigation and traced the source of the illegal transactions to Belinda Fay Blake, 51, of Clarksville, TN, an employee of the Super 8 Motel.

All of the transactions, except one, were to Facebook.com for online gaming such as Cityville, Farmville, etc. The one exception was a transaction for the purchase of computer security software.

On June 20, 2012, Illinois police contacted Clarksville police, who started investigating.

Police interviewed Blake, who admitted to using the Illinois woman's card information to make purchases for online gaming. Black also admitted to using several other people's credit card information to make purchases.

Blake is charged with illegal possession and use of a credit card. Her bond was set at $5,000.

Fitmarks: Calories and weight loss simplified

Underestimating calories is the number one problem for most people who claim to not be able to lose weight, despite following what they consider to be a "healthy" diet.

I have lost count of the number of times someone has asked me what else they can do to kick start? the weight loss. They have started off their new health regime with exercise three times a week, cut out the alcohol and junk food (apart from weekends of course!!). They then weigh themselves weekly and the scales don't budge.? This goes on for a few weeks and they begin to wonder if they have something wrong with them.? Thyroids, big bones, genes (my parents were overweight), leptin levels, stress, metabolic disorders even fat viruses have all had the finger pointed at them at some point .

Its funny how we don't release the fat virus into starving villages in third world countries, surely that would solve the problems there? Or maybe a bowl of rice and some muddy water every few days is eating "under maintenance"

you're best option for guaranteed weight loss is to start making a food diary and add up all the calories.? Do this over seven days and work out the average for each day of the week.? Try this free calorie counter? and food log http://www.foodfocus.co.uk/index.php .? Be strict with yourself here; it's only you who needs to know and ultimately will benefit most.

If your weight is staying the same week after week the calories you are consuming are at a maintenance level.? You will continue spinning your wheels or just give up altogether out of frustration and clothes shopping will become more and more of a nightmare.

Lets keep things simple. Simply reduce your calories by just 200 a day.? That's all. If your weight has been creeping up? then try cutting out 500 calories, if that doesn't work keep cutting back by 200 until things turn around. And they will do. The weight will slowly come down and your weighing sessions will be something to look forward to and be proud of!

Motherhood and the Myth of Having it All | Toddler Times

6059789551 3e23fd2c98 Motherhood and the Myth of Having it AllSince I read Anne-Marie Slaughter?s piece Why Women Still Can?t Have it All last week I?ve been pondering the idea of what it means to truly ?have it all.?

I?m not new at this mommy gig. With a nine-year-old, an almost-five-year old, and a three-year-old, I?m in the trenches, so to speak, but I have a few years of parenting under my belt.

This adds up, roughly, to: 700 time outs, 4,000 spilled sippy cups, 20 car seat installations, and 1,456,792 poopy diapers.

Nevertheless, I know better than to say that I know what I?m doing.

We?ve been through a lot as a family. At least once a week I marvel at the fact that I?ve been able so far to keep the wheels on this bus moving forward and cling to my sanity at the same time. As a mom, I?ve worked full time and part time outside the home. For two years I was a stay-at-home mom with no job, and if you?d asked me back then I?d have told you it was going to stay that way. Then suddenly I found myself working again, very part-time teaching one night a week. And now I?m home full time but also working. Full time? Part time? I haven?t done the math.

All I know is this: in each of these arrangements I?ve failed to achieve it ?all.? If it exists, it has eluded me these past nine years. Here?s the thing, though. I?ve never gone out seeking ?it all.? It?s a myth, like the American Dream or the perfect bra or a brand of nonfat ranch dressing that still tastes good.

There is no such thing as ?it all.?

In Slaughter?s article she describes leaving her position at the State Department in search of that elusive work-family balance, her ?desire to be with my family and my conclusion that juggling high-level government work with the needs of two teenage boys was not possible.?

I?ve never been a high-level government official. I?ve never even been a low-level government official. Come to think of it, I?ve never been any kind of official (unless you count that time I got to hold the flag at the Girl Scouts regional meeting in 5th grade) but do have an understanding about what it means to work hard and do the best by your family at the same time. I don?t think this is an issue that we can isolate to the ranks of the power elite. I know women who work in insurance offices and hospitals and in elementary school libraries who struggle with these same issues.

Across the country there are clerks at Dollar Generals and cashiers at Krogers who fight the rough waters of work and home harmony and who go under every day.

We?re not doing women any favors by promoting this myth that it?s possible to ?have it all.? Can someone please tell me what that even means? My suspicion is that the headline of the article (which was a fascinating and well-written and thought-provoking read) was intended to bait women into another tussle in the Mommy Wars. The cover photo on the issue of The Atlantic in which the article appears depicts a toddler in a briefcase like a cast-off file folder, a minor inconvenience, or the working woman?s latest must-have accessory.

I?ve yet to meet a working mom who regards her child in that way.

I?d be happy if we could stop promoting myths like ?having it all? as a mom because it ends up making us all feel like failures if we don?t measure up. For me, though, for now, a forward-moving bus driven by a mother who?s clinging to her sanity is the best I can do.

I?m not in pursuit of ?having it all,? and maybe that?s why I?m happy with what I have.

"Breaking Dawn - Part 2," directed by Bill Condon, is the fifth and final film in the "Twilight" series, based on the beloved novels by Stephenie Meyer. The faces of the franchise — Kristen Stewart as Bella, Taylor Lautner as Jacob and the aforementioned Robert Pattinson as Edward — all return for the "Twilight" conclusion, in theaters on November 16.

The upcoming sequel sees Bella in a brand-new light following her transformation into a vampire in the first "Breaking Dawn" flick's thrilling finale. Also along for the ride is newcomer Renesmee, the vampire daughter of Edward and Bella, played by Mackenzie Foy; a first look at Foy in the much-anticipated fan-favorite role hit the Web just last week.

So that's what Edward's getting you for his birthday, "Twilight" fans. But the question still stands: what are you getting him? Let us know in the comments below!

(AP) ? Suicide bombers killed 21 people in attacks on three churches in Nigeria during Sunday services, exacerbating religious tensions in a West African nation that is almost evenly divided between Muslims and Christians.

Authorities arrested one of the bombers who survived, said Kaduna State police chief Mohammed Abubakar Jinjiri, but he declined to say who police suspect was responsible for the bombings.

It was the third Sunday in a row that deadly attacks have been carried out against Christian churches in northern Nigeria. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the latest one, but suspicion fell on the radical Islamist sect Boko Haram because it took responsibility for the two earlier weekend assaults.

Boko Haram is waging an increasingly bloody fight with security agencies and the public in Nigeria. More than 560 people have been killed in violence blamed on the sect this year alone, according to an Associated Press count.

On Sunday, the suicide bombers drove explosive-laden cars to the gates of two churches in different parts of the city of Zaria and detonated them within minutes of each other. A similar attack targeted a church in the city of Kaduna about half an hour later at about 9:25 a.m., police said, prompting reprisals by Christian youths.

The attacks in the northern state of Kaduna killed a total of 21 people and wounded at least 100, said an official who works with a relief agency involved in rescue efforts. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak to journalists.

It wasn't immediately known if the reprisal attacks caused casualties in the religious flashpoint state, but hundreds of people have died in previous retaliatory violence there.

"The Boko Haram group's intention in bombing the churches is to attract reprisal attacks from the Christians, draw the battle line between Muslim and Christians and, (by doing so) get moderate Muslims to support them," said Shehu Sani, the president of the Kaduna-based Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria.

In Italy, the Vatican decried what it called systematic attacks against Christian churches in Nigeria. Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said in a statement that the "systematicness" of the attacks against Christian places of worship on a Sunday is "horrible and inacceptable" and reflects "an absurd design of hatred."

Within an hour of the Kaduna city attack on Shalom Church, an Associated Press reporter saw billows of smoke over a mosque in a predominantly Christian part of the city. Some Christian youths quickly mounted illegal roadblocks and were seen harassing motorists. A motorcycle taxi rider in that same neighborhood lay seriously hurt and bleeding by the road side. Motorcycle taxi riders there are often presumed to be Muslim and become easy targets during reprisal attacks by Christians.

"The Christians can't see Boko Haram," said Sani, "so they'll retaliate against Muslims."

Churches have been increasingly targeted by violence in Nigeria, with Boko Haram claiming some of the attacks. The situation has led churches in Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north to boost their security in a nation of more than 160 million people.

Last weekend, a suicide car bomber detonated his explosives outside a church in the central Nigerian city of Jos as gunmen attacked another church in the northeastern city of Biu, killing at least six people and wounding dozens. Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the two attacks.

The weekend before that, at least 15 people were killed and dozens more wounded after a suicide car bomber drove into Living Faith Church's compound in the northern Nigeria city of Bauchi and detonated his explosives as worshippers left an early morning service.

Earlier, an Easter Day blast in Kaduna left at least 38 people dead, and Christmas Day suicide bombing of a Catholic church in Madalla near Nigeria's capital killed at least 44.

For now, Christian leaders in the north are encouraging Christians to keep attending Sunday services.

"They can only destroy the flesh," said Sunday Aibe, a spokesman for the Northern Christian Association, "and not the spirit."

But many feel that going to church puts them at risk.

Timothy Musa, an unemployed 25 year old, says he won't go to church unless he sees the security improve.

"Unemployment in the country is still on the rise and now there is the insecurity of lives and property. How can I?" said the member of Christ the King Catholic Church, one of the three targeted by Sunday's attacks.

These latest attacks have occurred in the place where they are the most likely to have a ripple effect.

"Targeting religious places of worship is always an inflaming situation in a divided society such as we have here," said criminologist Innocent Chukwuma.

Kaduna state, which sits on Nigeria's dividing line between its largely Christian south and Muslim north, has a history of religious tensions.

Govt stands by child mental health tests | Health and Fitness

Mental Health Minister Mark Butler is concerned about possible over-reaction to clinical experts? advice after three-year-olds are screened under the new Healthy Kids Check program.

The program, which starts on July 1, will be predominantly managed by GPs who will refer children with troubling behaviour to psychologists or paediatricians.

Mr Butler admits there is always the danger of misdiagnosis or oversubscribing and says that?s why child care experts have been spending months getting the program ?precisely right?.

?Parents can be confident that when they go to a GP or a practice nurse in a GP surgery to check that just before their child starts pre-school or steps into primary school, that they?re developing in a way that we all hope and expect that they will be,? Mr Butler told journalists in Adelaide.

He said the program was aimed at picking up problems early so they can be dealt with and allow the child to enter preschool and primary school in the best position possible.

He said this $11 million program is the latest addition to the government?s $2.2 billion mental health reform package where children are checked for heart, eyesight and other physical health issues.

The mental health check itself will be mostly done by GPs under the Medicare system.

?The experts who have been designing this tool have made it very clear that their overriding objective has been to do no harm ? to provide a positive opportunity to families to take their children at that critical time of three years of age,? Mr Butler said.

?Obviously, we need to make sure through the advice of the clinical experts that it?s conducted in the best way possible and that there?s not an overreaction.

?I?m very confident that the people we have around the table designing this piece of work have that absolutely at the front of their mind.?

The government experts more than 27,000 children will benefit from additional support after being tested.

Reports: UBS may have $350M Facebook trade losses

(06-08) 17:45 PDT New York (AP) --

Swiss bank UBS AG may have lost as much as $350 million due to technical glitches on the Nasdaq stock exchange the day Facebook went public, according to reports published Friday.

CNBC and The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that UBS is considering legal action against Nasdaq as a result.

UBS spokeswoman Karina Byrne confirmed that the bank lost money due to Nasdaq's technical issues when the social networking company's stock began trading on May 18.

Byrne declined to disclose the amount but said it was "not material" to the bank. She said UBS has not taken legal action but is weighing its options for recovering its losses.

"Given the size of our U.S. equities business and our role as a major market maker, UBS was affected by these issues, as we believe other market participants may have been," Byrne said in a statement.

Nasdaq declined comment on the reports Friday.

The $350 million figure dwarfs previous estimates for the combined losses resulting from technical glitches at Nasdaq during Facebook's first day of trading. This week, the exchange said it would hand out $40 million in cash and credit to reimburse investment firms.

Facebook Inc.'s initial public stock offering was one of the most widely anticipated market debuts in years. But it quickly turned chaotic.

The opening was delayed by half an hour. Then, technical problems kept many investors from buying shares in the morning, or selling them later in the day, or even knowing whether their orders went through. Some investors complained they were left holding shares they didn't want.

According to CNBC and the Journal, UBS placed an order for 1 million shares but did not receive confirmations and repeated the order several times. So it ended up with much more stock than it intended.

Facebook's stock originally priced at $38 and closed that first day at $38.23, disappointing those hoping for a first-day surge. Nasdaq has said it was embarrassed by the glitches but that they didn't contribute to the underwhelming returns.

Manhattan Stealth Touch Mouse

The Manhattan Stealth Touch Mouse ($69.99 list) is the latest touch-enabled computer mouse, the likes of which have been steadily on the rise ever since Apple introduced its Magic Mouse ($69.99 direct, 3.5 stars) a few years back. Unlike a typical mouse, this species of mice relies exclusively on a touch-sensitive surface, so instead of clicking with your fingers, you tap and swipe as you would a touch-screen. In the case of the Manhattan Stealth Touch Mouse , the possibilities of the touch-sensitive surface are simultaneously realized and squandered. On the plus side, the absence of right- and left-click buttons yields a stylish minimalist design that radiates sophistication; it's like the champagne of computer mice. On the down side, though, the Stealth Touch is fairly limited in terms of functionality. Beyond the standard left- and right- click and vertical and horizontal scrolling, as well as a "presentation mode" that allows the mouse to act like a remote, there's not much else the Stealth Touch can do. Two-finger gestures for enhancing Web browsing or zooming are sorely missing. The end result is a mouse that, albeit gorgeous, comes with a somewhat steep price tag that's somewhat difficult to justify.

Design
The first thing you'll notice about the Stealth Touch, even before you install it (an endeavor barely worth mentioning, because it requires little beyond plugging in the dongle and waiting for the driver to install itself) is its unique design. You'd be hard pressed to find a mouse that lives up to its name more than the Stealth Touch. It's an object lesson in minimalism. Unlike the Apple Magic Mouse ?and the Microsoft Arc Touch ($67.95 list, 3.5 stars), there isn't a dedicated touch scroll. Rather, the Stealth Touch's streamlined aesthetic is more on par with the Logitech M600 Touch Mouse ($69.99 list, 4 stars) since there aren't any buttons to be found on this mouse. But the Stealth Touch takes the minimalist approach one step further; whereas the Logitech M600 is adorned with a dark grey color pattern, the Stealth Touch's all-black matte finish?dubbed "SilkTouch" coating by Manhattan?resembles an onyx. The only noticeable design is a Manhattan insignia and logo next to your thumb (assuming you're right-handed) that glows a faint blue light once it's turned on. Otherwise, the Stealth Touch mouse could easily pass for one of those hide-a-key rocks.

Of course, you won't be hiding any keys in this mouse. You can, however, hide the included USB dongle in a slot located on the underside, so the Stealth Touch can be taken on the go without any worries. Adjacent to the dongle slot is a compartment for the two AAA batteries (included) as well as two parenthetically-shaped glide strips that allow smooth movement on most surfaces. And oh, how it glides. The Stealth Touch feels as good as it looks. Its slipper-shaped body fit comfortably in my palm, and the "SilkTouch" coating provided a smooth yet textured grip for my fingers, allowing them to slide gently along the surface. All of this makes for a comfortable mouse that, while initially odd-feeling, soon felt surprisingly zen-like.

The fact that a few terse sentences sum up the Stealth Touch's design is a testament to its minimalism. Of all the mice I've seen, it's easily the best-looking and quite possibly the most post-modern in the sense that it simultaneously challenges the notion of what a mouse should look like while adhering to its basic aesthetic. But, alas, I'm not an art critic, so as much as I like the Stealth Touch's appearance, it's equally important to see what it can do.

Performance
So what can the Stealth Touch do? As it turns out, pretty much the same things that an ordinary mouse can. While simplicity was clearly the goal behind the Stealth Touch, functionality was compromised in this pursuit. Unlike the current Editors' Choice for touch mice, the Microsoft Touch Mouse ($79.95 list, 4.5 stars), the Stealth Touch does not offer full gesture support, so don't expect to swipe through pages on your Web browser. And while I appreciate the minimalist aesthetic engendered by the Stealth Touch's tap-sensitive surface, the absence of traditional clicking has its drawbacks. Beyond the fact that it's initially quite strange not having the reassuringly tactile "click" accompany my actions, more intuitive controls, like dragging and dropping or selecting text, never felt quite right. This is mainly due to the fact that the Stealth Touch requires a double tap for each, which, in the case of dragging and dropping icons, has the inadvertent effect of opening them at times. With this exception, though, the Stealth Touch performed other basic mouse functions like clicking and scrolling, with ease.

The Stealth Touch also utilizes what Manhattan has dubbed "Curve-Touch" technology, which detects when the mouse is no longer placed on a surface. When this is the case, the mouse turns into a makeshift wireless presenter that lets you scroll through documents, web sites, and PowerPoint slides by horizontally sliding your thumb. Once placed back on to a solid surface, "Curve-Touch" technology causes the Stealth Touch to automatically transition back to its regular operating mode. Nominally speaking, it's a nice feature, though not something I'd consider particularly useful in most day-to-day settings.

Aside from its touch-sensitive surface, the Manhattan Stealth Touch mouse is at its core an ordinary mouse. For this reason, it falls somewhere between decent and fantastic, as its incredible design is undermined by its limited functionality and steep price tag. For a touch mouse that really harnesses this innovative click-free technology, the Editors' Choice Microsoft Touch Mouse ?is still the one to beat, even if it isn't the prettiest.

Killer WirelessN 1202 WiFi Bluetooth cards in Alienware gaming laptops eyeson

Last month, Dell announced that its Alienware gaming laptops would be outfitted with Qualcomm Atheros' Killer Wireless-N 1202 WiFi cards. Aside from sporting low-latency capabilities, the add-on also sports some Bluetooth connectivity. Here at E3, we were able to spend some time with the tech to see just how the component and its accompanying software prioritizes your bandwidth and keeps your Call of Duty multi-player sessions in the #1 slot. The Killer application allows you to set different priority levels for anything that would claim a chunk of your internet connection. For example, if you keep your title of choice in the top spot, the tech will only download files or access websites whenever Skyrim isn't trying to send hi-pri info across the interwebs. By default the rankings are as follows from high to low: games, real-time chat (Skype), buffer-tolerant programs (Netflix and iTunes) and file transfer or low-level systems utilities. Until the end of June, you'll only be able to snag the tech in Dell's gaming laptops. We laid our peepers on the interface at the Alienware booth, so hit up the gallery below to take a look at what you can expect with the UI.

What Plants To Use In Your Backyard Garden

bryifijjet Posted by bryifijjet on 6 hours ago

Have you been told so many horror stories by friends, family or acquaintances about home renovations that it has made you think twice about fixing up your home? Behind every home improvement horror story lies a lack of research and advanced planning. Investing a little time in self-education takes a lot of the hassle out of home improvements. Continue reading to learn great tips that will help you do home improvement the right way.

When you plan to replace your siding, remember that it could be really expensive to install stucco on your home. The investment can be quite large. Even if you have your mind set on a specific look, you may be able to achieve it using more cost-effective materials.

Patching minor roof cracks can be accomplished using aluminum tape. Peel the paper backing from the sticky take before you apply it to the cleaned surface. This ensures a waterproof seal over any cracks.

Read your home improvement contract before you sign it. Legal terms can be confusing, but it?s important that you read through it thoroughly so that you know what you can and cannot expect. Failure to be diligent can lead to mistakes or, in the case of an unscrupulous contractor, being taken advantage of. Although you might trust him, be sure to read the contract.

Make good use of a home?s entrance by placing organizational tools just inside the doorway. A shoe bench, decorative key ring holder, mail tray and a mirror are attractive and useful. Adding a few of these items can greatly enhance your home?s organization.

You can greatly improve the safety in your home by gathering your family members and discussing safety escape routes. In an emergency, it is easy to panic. Working out safety escape routes before an emergency strikes can save you and your family members? lives. Make your plan, and practice it with your family.

The windows in your home may need to be improved. Bring those windows up to date! Install windows that are glazed two times. Although replacement windows are expensive, the windows will reduce your utility bills. New windows will make your home more secure. If money is of concern, you can also look to either changing out your curtains or repainting your frames to develop a different look.

When you are planning home improvement projects, it can be useful to look around for some inspiration. Books and magazines can be good for an idea of what to do. Get color samples and fabric swatches from your home improvement store. If you have a good idea of what you want, you can confidently begin work on your project when you are ready.

Motion detector lights are a great improvement to make. Not only will you save some money, but you will also be able to add some extra security to the home. Motion detector lights turn on automatically when an intruder approaches, providing you with the element of surprise and saving you money on electricity! Intruders are discouraged from approaching your house due to the lights activating as they approach.

You should follow the advice of a professional. You have already done the research you need and you?ve found a good contractor. It is in your best interest to believe what he is telling you. If he says a change will look bad, it probably will. This rule is especially true when it comes to maintaining a budget, as the contractor knows the costs involved. Make sure you consider what he is saying.

Improving the look of your home can be easy if you want it to be. Most homes need repair, maintenance or both. The homeowner that can go beyond these basics and do additional work, will be rewarded with a more pleasant home and an increase in that home?s value. Use the above tips and techniques to learn everything you can about home improvement.

China to US embassy: Stop telling people how bad the air is in Beijing.

Air quality in Beijing is notorious for being 'crazy bad.' The US Embassy in Beijing started tweeting air quality reports, but now China says it's unfair to judge it by international standards.

For the past three years or so, the embassy has Tweeted the hourly readings from a pollution monitor on its roof, providing the only real time indicator of what we are breathing here.

Deputy Environment Minister Wu Xiaoqing, however, told reporters today that this was a violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Only the Chinese government is allowed to measure and publish air quality information, he said.

The trouble with that is that I am not the only person in Beijing who has sometimes found it hard to reconcile the soupy grey fog that I often see outside my window with the Beijing Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center?s insistence that pollution is ?light.?

The US embassy spokesman was unavailable to comment on Mr. Wu?s admonition, but @BeijingAir, its Twitter feed, was still posting at 6 p.m.; it found the air to be ?Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.?

That is a definition taken from the US EPA, and Wu said it was not fair to judge Chinese air by American standards, which are stricter than Chinese ones, because of ?our current stage of development.?

This is not the first time the US Twitter feed has got into trouble. On Nov. 19, 2010, when the Air Quality Index soared above 500 ? the top of the US scale ? the reading was described in a tweet as ?crazy bad.?

The term appeared to have been inserted into the monitoring program by a programmer who never expected such an outlandishly high reading: Anything over 300 ?would trigger a health warning of emergency conditions? in America, according to an EPA website.

Nowadays, readings over 500 (20 times higher than World Health Organization guidelines) are described simply as ?beyond index.?

The Beijing municipality website publishes its own hourly readings of PM 2.5 tiny particulate matter, regarded as especially dangerous, but only 24 hours after the fact. It also publishes an average figure for air quality over the previous 24 hours, but does not characterize it as good, bad, or hazardous.

Wu?s warning to the US embassy will doubtless re-focus public attention on the real quality of Beijing?s air, which cannot be good for the authorities. What?s odd is that for the past few early summer days here the air has mostly been clear, and even gloriously sharp on one or two evenings.

If the embassy Twitter feed dies, we shall just have to go back to trusting our eyes and our noses. Just because we cannot put a scientific figure to it, doesn?t mean we don?t know what we are breathing.

HomeCorps making a dent in foreclosure crisis - Worcester Real ...

The director of the HomeCorps program says the program is a hit in that it has fielded almost 3,000 calls as of late April, opened 1,865 case files and prevented "dozens" of foreclosures since it began assisting distressed homeowners. The staff of six expects to triple in size due to the demand for mortgage help from Massachusetts homeowners.

As reported in a previous post, the HomeCorps program was launched a few months ago by Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley with the express goal of preventing foreclosures. The program is funded through a multi-state settlement with five of the largest mortgage lending institutions in the country. Massachusetts received $44.5 million of the $25 billion settlement. In an interview, Ms. Coakley said she wants to ensure Massachusetts residents receive all the mortgage assistance due them from this settlement.

Other states included in the settlement have been criticized for diverting some of the settlement funds into other areas at the protest of housing advocates who want to hold the lenders accountable for fraudulent and error-prone foreclosure practices, such as "robo-signing". HomeCorps provides grant funding to legal services agencies, non-profits and municipalities in an effort to help delinquent borrowers prevent foreclosure as well as help neighborhoods blighted by the foreclosure crisis.

The HomeCorps hotline is 617-573-5333 and is ready to assist homeowners with information regarding mortgage relief, loan modifications, refinancing and principle reduction. The Attorney general said that by enlisting a 'middleman' of sorts who has the power to influence the state's top regulator to work with lenders on behalf of borrowers, we are able to prevent unnecessary foreclosures in the state. The idea is to use as much of the settlement money as possible to directly help those who need it most.

Understanding the various state and federal programs can be complicated for many individuals, and not everyone who needs help with their mortgage may qualify for some reason or another. If you are struggling with a mortgage lender for any reason, consulting with a residential real estate attorney can be a great resource for understanding what options are available to you to either prevent a foreclosure or qualify for loan modification or refinance program.

Are you worried about your heart or someone else? Sign up for WebMD heart disease, newsletters and the latest information on heart healthy life.So far, there is only one size AbioCor heart ? large. Patients who were now 6 feet tall, weighing more than 170 men pounds. A big box is necessary to accommodate the current version of the device. The artificial heart

Based on new research, which included mostly children with ? rather than less severe autistic spectrum disorders ? the newly identified genetic variants for autism could represent about 15 percent of diagnoses of autism, estimates H?konarson. Having the variant does not automatically mean a person will develop autism, says that other genetic and environmental factors are considered to come into play, although the estimate of 15 percent is important, he said.

Abiomed, the device manufacturer, said that five to 10 medical centers will be trained to implant the AbioCor device.

?The vast majority of these patients are bedridden, extremely short of breath, and connected to multiple drugs intravenously.

The approval of ?humanitarian? is not full approval. It applies only to what Bram Zuckerman, MD, director of FDA?s device center, called the ?most serious of the sick.?

The approval is for the humane treatment of conditions that affect fewer than 4,000 patients a year in the United States, according to a statement of the FDA news. Like the short survival times suggest, the device remains experimental.

People who receive the device will be included in a post-approval study. The results of this study will be used to develop the next generation of artificial hearts.

In clinical studies, the extension part of the lives of patients in just four and a half months on average. One patient survived 17 months, another 10 months. Only one patient was able to return home.

A roll of transfer of power through the skin that feeds the system and recharges the internal battery from outside.

?The reason this is so exciting is that one day we?re talking about an innovative device that can save lives,? Schultz said in a press conference. ?The approval of the humanitarian program to use, is part of our way to ensure that this technology will be available to patients for whom waiting for full approval is not an option.?

?It ?important to recognize that this time the device is a niche targeted for a very sick heart failure population,? says Zuckerman.

?For many of these patients in the clinical study, only the ability to walk, to communicate clearly with their families to take trips outside the hospital, and to celebrate important family events, were ? in the eyes of patients and their families ? considered an improvement ?says Zuckerman.

However, the announcement represents an important step on the road to a fully functioning artificial heart, said Daniel Schultz, MD, director of FDA?s Center for Devices and Radiological Health.
