Apparently, "The Secret World of Arrietty" and "Dr. Seuss'?The Lorax" represent liberal Hollywood?s attempt to indoctrinate children.
The accusations from media personalities on the right were probably inevitable, given similar charges leveled at "Cars 2," "Happy Feet 2" and?Muppets, where similar political themes are explored to one extent or another.
This time, the proclamation of left-wing propaganda comes from Lou Dobbs, who hosts Lou Dobbs Tonight on the Fox Business Network.

During his Tuesday night show, Dobbs dubbed Disney?s "Arrietty" and Universal?s "Lorax" ?insidious nonsense from Hollywood,? then he announced: ?Hollywood is once again trying to indoctrinate our children.?
"Arrietty," about four-inch people who ?borrow? what they need from normal-sized humans, encourages class envy and redistribution of wealth, according to Dobbs, while "Lorax" is just another example of environmental radicalism.
?So, where have we all heard this before?? Dobbs asks after showing a clip from each of the two films.
Then he answers himself: ?Occupy Wall Street forever trying to pit the makers against the takers and President Obama repeating that everyone should pay their fair share.?

Dobbs also played clips of Obama repeating the mantra.
?Wow. Fair share,? says Dobbs. ?The president's liberal friends in Hollywood targeting a younger demographic using animated movies to sell their agenda to children.?
Dobbs hosted three talk-radio guests to discuss the matter. Steve Cochran said he didn?t share Dobbs? concern, ?Because I know the people in Hollywood and, frankly, they?re not that bright.?
?I just don?t think Hollywood has got that kind of power in the big picture and I refuse to allow parents off the hook to say they do,? Cochran said.
Dom Giordano disagreed.
?Parents need a break, also. We need a safe harbor,? he said.
?What we?re doing is creating occu-toddlers,? said Matt Patrick, who joked that the anti-consumerism, pro-environmental messages should be countered by moviegoers who purchase lots of popcorn and candy then leave the trash on theater floors.
"Lorax" opens March 2 and "Arrietty" opened Friday and has taken in $9 million domestically thus far.

A new class of planet has emerged from the buzzing masses of celestial spinners, a type unlike the rocky, gassy and icy worlds shuffling around the solar system.
The poster-planet for this new order is GJ 1214b, first discovered in 2009 and now shown to be a steamy, water-rich sphere. But it?s not a water-world in the sense of splashing oceans and Kevin Costner: Scientists suspect that the planet?s interior is filled with some exotic, high-pressure form of solid H2O unlike anything seen on Earth.?
The planet is just 6.5 times more massive than Earth and about 2.7 times bigger in diameter. ?It circles a small star about 42 light-years away.
?It?s an exciting thing that we don?t have in our solar system,? says Lisa Kaltenegger, an astronomer who divides her time between Germany?s Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge. ?And it?s a fun puzzle trying to figure out what the atmosphere of that planet is really made of.?
Astronomers sniffed out the latest details using the Wide Field Camera 3 aboard the Hubble Space Telescope. It?s not the first time GJ 1214b has been peered at, but the new study both confirms and sharpens previous observations.
As the planet passed in front of its star, the team could study its atmosphere at a range of infrared wavelengths, and from there could estimate the planet?s composition ? a mystery because of its low density. The atmosphere is at least half water and is probably clustered near the planet?s surface, says Zachory Berta, a graduate student at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and coauthor of the study describing the planet?s properties, which will appear in the March 1 issue of The Astrophysical Journal.
The interior, Berta says, is probably largely water molecules instead of primarily something like rock. But it?s not water in familiar frozen or liquid forms.
?We?re not talking about either a frozen core of normal ice or a liquid water ocean,? Berta says. ?You?re getting into weird states of matter when you?re describing this.?

You?ve probably received your W-2 forms by now, so?why not consider preparing your own federal tax return this year? You can work at your own pace and will not have to go through the arduous task of schooling an accountant in your personal financial situation ? after all, no one knows your overall financial picture better than you.
If you choose to file your taxes unaided, there is a great deal of help available to you through the various?tax preparation software programs. I first prepared my own taxes several years ago and have never looked back. However, there are some basic terms you should know before you get started.
What You Should Know
Adjusted Gross Income
Your gross income includes wages and salaries, bonuses, interest, dividends, and income tax refunds. Once these figures are totaled, you will subtract your deductions, which then yields your adjusted gross income, or AGI. If you prepare your return utilizing online software, it will ask you all the questions needed in order to accurately determine your AGI.
Tax Deductions
A tax deduction is something that reduces the amount of your income that is subject to tax. These include (but are not limited to) medical expenses, property taxes, mortgage loan interest paid, and charitable donations.
It?s easy to inadvertently neglect an eligible personal tax deduction, and the best way to avoid this is to create and maintain an accurate filing system throughout the year. Note the payments you are certain are deductions, as well as anything you think?might?be a deduction. You can always research questionable items at tax-time to see if they are indeed deductible. Once you become more adept at preparing your taxes, you?ll have a clearer idea of which receipts and statements to save.
Tax Credits
Tax credits?are items that directly reduce the amount of tax that you owe. There are a number of tax credits that you may be eligible for, including education expenses and child and dependent care expenses, as well as some portions of the Energy Star credit for energy-efficient appliances. There are two types of tax credits: refundable and non-refundable. A non-refundable tax credit can reduce your overall tax liability to zero (but not below), whereas a refundable tax credit can reduce your liability to below zero ? which means you get a refund.
Commonly Used Forms
- W-2. First off, you?ll need all of your W-2 forms. If you changed jobs in the previous year, be sure to follow up with your former employer. Forms are required by law to be mailed out by the end of January, but if you?ve relocated in the past year, they may not find you.
- 1099-MISC. The 1099-MISC form will typically include any sort of miscellaneous income you had for the previous year, including, but not limited to, fees, commissions, rents or royalties paid, payments for prizes and awards, and any income earned by independent contractors.
- 1099-INT. This form includes any interest you earned throughout the year through checking and savings accounts, among others.

As there are more than 1,000 forms provided by the IRS, this is just a basic list. Depending on?the complexity of your finances, there may be other forms needed.
What You?ll Need
Besides all the forms listed above, you?ll need all receipts regarding job-related expenses and job search expenses, which make up your miscellaneous deductions. However, your total miscellaneous deductions must exceed 2% of your AGI in order to claim them.
You?ll also want detailed documentation of any charitable contributions you made, as well as all records regarding non-reimbursed medical expenses, which can be deducted if they total more than 7.5% of your AGI.
Which Form to File
You have three choices here, depending on your income and whether you choose to?itemize your deductions.
- 1040EZ. The 1040EZ?is the simplest form to use. You can generally file with this form if you have no dependents, are younger than 65, earned less than $100,000 in the previous year, and don?t plan on itemizing.
- 1040A. This is an expanded version of the EZ. You can still make adjustments to your income through standard deductions and credits, but you can?t itemize. You must earn less than $100,000 to use this form, and you cannot use this form if you had any self-employment income.
- 1040. The 1040 is what you would use if neither the 1040EZ nor the 1040A can be used. If you made more than $100,000, plan to itemize, or had self-employment income, this is the form to use

A key way to minimize?the time you spend preparing your taxes is to understand the difference between itemizing and simply submitting a 1040EZ, where you just take the standard deduction. CULVER CITY, Calif. (AP) ? YouTube is enlisting Hollywood's help to reach a generation of viewers more familiar with smartphones than TV remotes.
The online video giant is aiming to create 25 hours of programming per day with the help of some of the top names in traditional TV. The Google-owned site is spreading its wealth among producers, directors, and other filmmakers, using a $100 million pot of seed money it committed last fall. The fund represents YouTube's largest spending on original content so far.
YouTube believes it is laying groundwork for the future. While the number of traditional TV watchers has leveled off in recent years, more and more people are watching video on mobile phones, tablets and computers, especially the 18- to 34-year-old age demographic that advertisers covet.
The idea is to create 96 additional YouTube channels, which are essentially artists' home pages, where viewers can see existing video clips and click "subscribe" to be notified when new content goes up.
Well-funded videos by a select roster of stars are likely to be more watchable than the average YouTube fare of cute cats and webcam monologues. YouTube is betting that a solid stream of good content will attract more revenue from advertisers, bring viewers back frequently and bolster its parent company's fledgling Web-connected-TV platform, Google TV.
The cash has enticed some of TV's biggest stars, including "Fast Five" director Justin Lin, who directs episodes of "Community," ''CSI" creator Anthony Zuiker and Nancy Tellem, the former president of CBS entertainment.
Zuiker is teaming up on a horror series for YouTube after observing his own family's behavior. His three pre-teen sons spend more time on phones, iPads and computers than watching TV these days.
"We want to jointly take the risk with YouTube and roll the dice on the future," Zuiker says. "The old regime is going to falter because everybody thinks the TV is the only device that really counts, and that's just not the case."
For producers, it's a chance to create shows that are completely free of meddling from major studios. They can also stay relevant with a younger crowd whose viewing is moving increasingly online.
Several new channels such as the extreme sports-focused Network A and Spanish-language Tutele have launched already. YouTube hopes to have them all up and running by this summer.
"This was really about galvanizing the ecosystem at large," says Alex Carloss, global head of original programming for YouTube. "We see the portfolio (of funded channels) really representing the best of TV meeting the best of the Web."
YouTube isn't the only Web video service that has started to pay for original content. Netflix Inc. recently launched the original series "Lilyhammer," while Hulu premiered "Battleground." But YouTube videos tend to be under 10 minutes, instead of fitting into traditional half-hour or hour-long TV slots. And aside from a few guidelines, ultimate control is given over to the artist, including what is uploaded and when new episodes appear.
YouTubers also get away with far edgier stuff than the middle finger that rapper M.I.A. flashed during the Super Bowl halftime show.
Although YouTube's entire investment is less than half of what some studios spend on one blockbuster movie, about a third of the new channels were awarded to scrappy YouTube veterans who already know how to make it big online while keeping production costs low.
YouTube expects to recoup what it spends on the grants by sharing ad revenue the new videos generate.
At Maker Studios, which received money for three new channels, the funds have turbo-charged an already teeming operation that has about 160 full-time staff spread across several buildings crammed with props and computers in the west Los Angeles suburb of Culver City.
On a recent visit, two scenes were being shot in an alley. One was for a parody of a Christmas movie trailer. The other was for a new series about a crime-fighting van called "Si, Es I, Pepe."
Maker cranks out about 300 YouTube videos each month at a bare-bones cost of about $1,000 each.
The studio's videos generate a whopping 500 million views each month, thanks largely to established hits that include Ray William Johnson's roundup of crazy videos and such viral giants as "Epic Rap Battles of History."
Advertisers pay up to $10 per thousand views for video ads that precede the featured content, according to TubeMogul, a major buyer of YouTube ads for the nation's biggest advertisers including Proctor & Gamble Co. and News Corp.'s 20th Century Fox movie studio.
Established YouTube partners share roughly half of their revenue with the site. So if Maker videos generate $1 or $2 in ad revenue per thousand views, it would just be scraping by.
Maker co-founder Danny Zappin, who quit film school to buy a high-end camera to start a career on YouTube, says it's a "tricky balance" to keep the studio's share of ad revenue higher than the cost of video-making. The undisclosed amount it got from YouTube, on top of the $1.5 million venture capital it received about a year ago, lets Maker put up more videos without waiting for the views and cash to roll in.
"It gives us resources and runway that we wouldn't otherwise have," Zappin said.
For other less-established players in online video, the money has given them an added reason to get involved.
Former CBS executive Tellem teamed up with TV entrepreneur Brian Bedol to create Bedrocket Media Ventures, an upstart production company behind several new YouTube channels, including Network A. The funding "allowed us, or caused us, to focus on YouTube ahead of other platforms," Bedol says.
Analysts believe YouTube has made a wise investment at a time ad rates for online video are rising.
YouTube can be successful with just a few big hits ? think of Rebecca Black's "Friday" ? even if thousands of videos fall flat. It's similar to the hit-or-miss approach to traditional TV and movies.
"The investor community does not look at this as money wasted," Macquarie analyst Ben Schachter says.
Since promising to share ad revenue with its most popular uploaders in 2007, YouTube has invested in original content mainly by paying for equipment and training new artists, but it was never as big as this.
Backing up its new strategy, YouTube also revamped its homepage to prioritize channels and recommendations above just the most-viewed videos. The revamp allows advertisers to target popular channels or categories of content more easily.
YouTube's funding plan takes a page from Apple Inc.'s playbook. When the iPhone maker launched its App Store in 2008, a $100 million seed fund created by Silicon Valley investor John Doerr spawned hundreds of thousands of new apps.
"Our developers are not software engineers," YouTube's vice president of global content partnerships, Robert Kyncl, told a convention in January. "Our developers are Hollywood stars, are online stars, are regular folks like you and I."
If nothing else, the injection of funds will spawn content never before been seen on any screen, large or small.
"Fast Five" director Lin, who is teaming up with YouTube stars Ryan Higa and Kevin "KevJumba" Wu on the "YOMYOMF" channel, said his focus is not to try to find audiences with stereotypical Asian-American content. Rather, the idea is to give a platform to people who have unique voices but haven't been heard yet.
He says Higa and Wu didn't follow any set rules when they jumped to popularity with a mix of oddball humor, brutal honesty and rap.
"They just did what they loved, and people came," Lin said. "If we're going to fail, I would rather go out with that philosophy."

Brown originally wasn't wanted at Houston's funeral by family members, according to TMZ, but was later invited to attend in support of daughter Bobbi Kristina.
It's still not clear whether Brown was asked to leave or left on his own accord.?
However, Brown is also scheduled to perform later this evening in Connecticut with his group, New Edition.?
The Reverend Al Sharpton described the scene via Twitter:?

The Reverend Jesse Jackson later disagreed to CNN claiming Brown reacted positively to the seating issue. "It seemed they could have accommodated him better." ?

After the services, Reverend Sharpton took to Twitter again to address his earlier tweet: "I don't want anyone distorting Bobby Brown. He has shown love and respect today. Stop hatin.'"

Yemeni security: 5 officials shot dead (AP)
SANAA, Yemen ? Gunmen shot five officials dead in the middle of a southeastern Yemeni town Wednesday, while one soldier was killed in a car bomb attack on a military checkpoint, security officials said.
The officials could not identify the attackers in either incident, but multiple militant groups including Islamist radicals and regional separatists are active where they occurred. The attacks highlight the lawlessness in Yemen less than one week before a national election to approve a new national leader to replace longtime autocratic President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Security has collapsed across Yemen during the year-old popular uprising seeking to push Saleh from power. Saleh is currently in the U.S. being treated for injuries sustained in a bomb blast last year. Under a U.S.-backed plan, his deputy, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, is to be rubber stamped as the country's new leader in elections on Feb. 21.
The U.S. and Saudi Arabia have pinned their hopes on Hadi, considering him the best person to end Yemen's unrest and lead the fight against the country's active al-Qaida branch, which has directly targeted the U.S.
Many worry, however, that Saleh will remain the country's most powerful figure due to his many relatives and tribesmen in the impoverished country's security forces.
In a sign that Saleh is beginning to hand over authority ? officially at least ? Saleh ordered on Wednesday that pictures of him hung around the country be replaced with those of Hadi, the state news agency Saba reported.
Many groups in Yemen ? including al-Qaida, a movement calling for independence of Yemen's south, and insurgent groups in the country's north ? oppose the elections. Wednesday's attacks appeared to be efforts to make the vote fail.
A local election official, an army chief and three others were killed when armed men opened fire on them in the middle of the town of Bayda, southeast of the capital Sanaa, security officials said.
In the province of Marib east of the capital, one soldier was killed and five others wounded by the explosion of a booby-trapped car near a military checkpoint, another official said. The official said the attack appeared to have been carried out by al-Qaida.
On Tuesday, one man was killed when an explosive he attempted to throw at a polling station in the southern port city of Aden exploded prematurely.

TEGUCIGALPA (Reuters) ? A massive fire swept through an overcrowded prison in Honduras and killed more than 350 inmates, including many trapped inside their cells, officials said on Wednesday.
The attorney general's office said 357 people died in the blaze that began late on Tuesday night at the prison in Comayagua, about 75 kilometers (45 miles) north of the capital Tegucigalpa.
Lucy Marder, head of forensic services in Comayagua, said police reported that one of the dead was a woman who stayed overnight and the rest were prisoners, but she said some of those presumed dead could have escaped. Local media reported that the Comayagua fire department chief also died in the blaze.
It was one of the worst prison fires ever in Latin America, and local radio reports said many of the inmates were burned to death inside their cells.
Honduras has the highest murder rate in the world, according to the United Nations, and there are frequent riots and clashes between members of rival street gangs in its overcrowded prisons.
The gangs, known as 'maras', started in the United States and then spread down into Central America, with members covered in distinctive tattoos and involved in drug trafficking, armed robbery and protection rackets.
Soldiers, police and anxious relatives surrounded the Comayagua prison on Wednesday morning and television images showed weeping relatives pressed against a chain link fence as they waited for news. The prison housed more than 800 inmates -- well above its capacity.
"This is desperate, they won't tell us anything and I think my husband is dead," a crying Gregoria Zelaya told Canal 5 TV as she stood outside the prison.
Local firemen said they were prevented from entering the prison due to gunshots. But Daniel Orellana, head of the prison system, said there was no riot.
"We have two hypotheses, one is that a prisoner set fire to a mattress and the other one is that there was a short circuit in the electrical system," he said.
Across Honduras, prisons are filled to double their capacity. More than 100 prisoners were killed in a fire in the textile manufacturing town of San Pedro Sula several years ago.
Honduras clocked more than 80 homicides per 100,000 people in 2009, a rate 16 times that of the United States, according to a United Nations report last year.
The country is also a major drug trafficking transit point for South American cocaine moving north to consumers in the United States and authorities say there is increasing presence of violent Mexican drug cartels in the country.
A political crisis ripped through Honduras in mid-2009 when a widely-condemned coup toppled the democratically elected president but the country has been trying to heal divisions since the election of President Porfirio Lobo later that year.
