i've been pondering some self-improvement, but let's not call

I'VE BEEN PONDERING SOME SELF-IMPROVEMENT, BUT LET'S NOT CALL 'EM "RESOLUTIONS"...

??????????

Okay, so maybe I'm not exactly "perfect" in my current configuration.? But this "resolution" thing is taking it too far, in my opinion.

?????????? Every year we muddle along, putting on weight, ignoring our dental issues, letting household improvements slide, telling ourselves that THIS will be the fresh start we need to finally drop the pounds, clean out the garage, fix the roof, repaint the bedrooms, caulk the tubs, etc. etc. etc. and in the end, we punish ourselves for a week or two in early January, then revert to whatever got us into such sorry shape to begin with.

?????????? My resolution this year is to make no bullshit resolutions.? My lovely (and dangerous) wife, on the other hand, has already started carrying through on her threats to impose a new diet plan for the two of us.? I call her "cleansing" proposals a diet of brush and potpourri... and I've been subjected to this shit in the past.? It's not nearly as horrible as I pretend it is, but if I don't act sufficiently miserable she'll just keep ratcheting up the levels of bland roughage until we're actually surviving on twigs and sunflower hulls.

??????????? Sigh...

??????????? I prefer to make resolutions I can keep.? For instance, I'm perfectly willing to give up Brussel sprouts, boiled okra, gin, and going to church.? I already hate all of those things.? See how easy this is?

??????????? I can give up peanut brittle, coconut, wild women, and day trading, too.? Being a married man who never eats peanut brittle or coconut, who already HAS a wild woman, and who doesn't know a damn thing about the stock market helps with this series of sacrifices I'm willing to make.

?????????? But for Christ's sake, baby, don't tell me we can't have cheese, or hamburgers, or baked potatoes with butter, or cold beer!? Don't hide the sausage-cheese balls, or put the fudge in the freezer labeled as "asparagus".? Surely we can compromise!

?????????? Compromise... what a concept.? I read in the morning paper where Congressional leaders and our President are trying to pound out some kind of agreement to avoid a brush and potpourri diet of sequestration cuts and taxes... and I'm willing to bet those assholes have a better chance at reaching a happy medium than we do here at Chateau Squatlo.

?????????? If you come over to visit, please bring beer and something totally decadent to eat.

?????????? I'd do it for you...
????????

Student Suspended Over Adam Lanza Poem - Business Insider

A 17-year-old student at California's Life Learning Academy has been suspended for writing in a personal notebook that she understands the elementary school massacre Newtown, Conn.

"I understand the killings in Connecticut," Courtni Webb wrote in a personal notebook, The Daily Mail reported Monday. "I know why he pulled the trigger. Why are we oppressed by a dysfunctional community of haters and blamers?"

Adam Lanza killed 20 students and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, after killing his mother in the home they shared. He later killed himself.

A teacher found the poem in Webb's notebook and handed it over to the school principal, prompting the school to suspend Webb until further notice, according to Examiner.com.

But Webb and her mother told NBC News that Webb was merely expressing herself and trying to start a conversation about the issue. The school is overreacting, they argue.

"I feel like I really been made to almost look like a monster by my school and I don't appreciate that at all," Webb said. "Never in my life have I heard that you couldn't mention a tragedy that happened. I didn't say that I agree with it, I said I simply understand it."

The school hasn't yet commented on the issue but said in a letter to Webb's mother that the poem violated the school's zero-tolerance policy.

"I feel like they violated her freedom of speech," Webb's mother Valerie Statham told NBC.

Make Money Online With These Simple Internet Marketing Tips | Joe ...

It is not possible to know everything about Internet marketing. Trends can be tracked, and new ones are being created daily, so the possibilities are only as limited as your imagination and information gathering skills. The advice in this article will help your internet marketing business to improve.

Just about every single cell company will be able to get you a dedicated number for the same phone. Considering this, you should get a dedicated number for your business.

TIP! Good advertising is the key to growing your business fast. Advertising is usually a wise investment as it can draw consumer interest your company would not receive otherwise.

Give your customers incentives to refer others. It is not hard to transform a single sale into five if you offer people a freebie or a discount for referring five people to the website. People just love receiving free items and increased website traffic can potentially lead to increased sales!

A good way to put yourself out there on the Internet is to try video marketing strategies. Incorporating an informative video onto your website is a great method for gaining the attention of your viewers. An interesting title and a unique picture will grab the attention of potential clients and possibly produce sales.

If there?s a signature option when posting on forums and blogs, use it. If you participate in forums, place a link to your site in the signature of your posts. Every email you send out should have a link to your site within your signature. This will spread word about your business far and wide, and it could have positive SEO consequences, too. Right before the link itself, add an attention-grabbing phrase or sentence that makes clicking irresistible.

TIP! Valuable content is always the starting point of any successful Internet marketing campaign. Make sure you edit your site often so you get the right information out to customers.

Aim to provide people around the globe varying versions of your sites. Making your site available with multiple language options is a great idea. This can get you some serious traffic and many more customers globally. Customers who can read your website in their own language are more likely to make a purchase from the site.

Use high resolution images to showcase your products on your website. Customers will like the fact that they get to clearly see what they are ordering. Having a section where customers can upload their own photos of products is another great idea. Before and after shots can be an effective selling tactic.

Try keeping your content up to date whenever you possibly can. When people come to your website and see information that is dated, they think that the business is not performing and may be leery of initiating contact with you. If your site is frequently updated and user-friendly, your readers will enjoy visiting it.

TIP! Don?t overlook the little details. The title should be near the top corner of each page as well as a description of your site.

Having your business listed in Google is the path to success. There are a lot of folks looking at Google at all times; you should know when they are searching for something you have to offer. Google has a wide range of directories and listing options. Use them to your advantage.

Be prepared to answer their questions. Most visitors come to websites to find information. If you are unwilling to provide answers, you may be losing potential customers. Giving them detailed information both satisfies their curiosity and increases the likelihood that they will buy from you.

Be careful not to go to far in advertising spending. Manage your money and don?t pay too much for advertisements, especially when they won?t necessarily help your business. When investing, you need to be sure that you?re going to get what need from it. That is why advertising using banners is a wise investment.

TIP! Creating viral videos and using tags can help you succeed with Internet marketing. Make sure to link to your site in the video description.

You are going to need to build and maintain trust with your customers. Utilize only information which is supported by documented evidence when designing and promoting your campaigns. Testimonials from happy clients, test results and endorsements from experts in the field should all be presented.

Find out what works best with your customers by testing how effective your emails are. The simplest kind of test to run is the A/B test. In one of your campaigns, change something in the email. This could be two different subject lines, two different call to actions, or two different intro paragraphs. Randomly divide your subscribers into two groups of equal sizes, then send one version of the email to each group. Check statistics like click throughs for each version of the campaign to see which worked better. Find the most successful one and incorporate it into your campaign.

Be sure to provide a customer feedback section, which you can manage carefully. Good feedback will help you improve your site and will give your new customers confidence.

TIP! Pay attention to your competitors. Their strategies may help you refine your own, allowing you to better reach your customer base.

After your customers have bought a service or product, cross-sell related products; send your customers an online product sheet or catalog that contains links to related items that might interest them. As an illustrative instance, if your site sells shoes and a customer purchases a pair of boots, provide them with links to the other boots you offer. You can increase your sales by targeting you marketing efforts based on past purchases.

Thankfully, there is a wealth of information around that can make you a better Internet marketer. With so much information available, you won?t have to spend hundreds for some unneeded course. These hints are just a start. They are quick and easy to understand so you can use them with your Internet marketing. Always keep your eyes and ears open for unique ideas to improve your marketing results.

Washington dodges the 'dairy cliff,' avoids spike in milk prices

The House's Agricultural Committee reached an agreement with the Senate to extend the US farm bill ?that will keep milk prices in check in 2013. Without the compromise the price of a gallon of milk may have reached $7.

Jim Mitchell selects a gallon of milk at a Milwaukee grocery store Dec. 4. As the nation teeters on the brink of the economic ?fiscal cliff,? Washington has reached one compromise, extending the US farm bill, which if expired could have doubled the price of milk.

Farm-state lawmakers have agreed to a one-year extension of the expiring US farm bill that, if enacted, would head off a possible doubling of retail milk prices to $7 or more a gallon in 2013.

The compromise measure resulted from bipartisan discussions in the?House of Representatives' Agriculture Committee?and talks with colleagues in the US?Senate,?Frank Lucas?of?Oklahoma, the?House?panel's chairman, said in a statement Sunday.

"It is not perfect - no compromise ever is - but it is my sincere hope that it will pass the?House?and?Senate?and be signed by the President by January 1," Lucas, a Republican, said.

It was not immediately clear whether?House?and?Senate?leaders would bring the measure to a vote soon enough to avoid putting the so-called "dairy cliff" milk price spike into action.

Separately, lawmakers are working on a last-ditch effort to avert the similarly timed "fiscal cliff," when the biggest tax increases ever to hit Americans are set to start, paired with significant federal spending cuts

US Agriculture?Secretary?Tom Vilsack, in an interview with CNN taped Friday and aired on Sunday, urged?Congress?to come up with such a solution, if only an extension of the old law that expired nearly three months ago, lest milk prices start rising after Jan. 1, 2013.

Absent a new bill or an extension of current law, milk prices would revert to rules set in 1949, the last "permanent" farm legislation in the?United States. Government price supports would kick in, based on production costs 64 years ago, plus inflation. The potential retail milk price has been estimated at $6.00 to $8.00 a gallon versus current levels near $3.50.?

Lucas said in the statement that time had run out in?Congress' current session to enact a new five-year farm bill, as farm-state lawmakers and the dairy lobby had hoped.

Vilsack told CNN that soaring milk prices - if it comes to that - would ripple throughout all commodities "if this thing goes on for an extended period of time."

The price of milk will not double on Jan. 1, if?Congress?fails to act. Instead, prices would rise gradually as supplies are removed from normal markets and land instead in US Department of Agriculture storage facilities.

With supplies more scarce in normal marketing channels, some milk distributors and dairy product manufacturers could have turned to imported supplies.

The Department of Agriculture is reviewing a range of options for administering programs should a permanent law become legally effective on Jan. 1, a spokesman said on Friday.

The?Senate?passed its new five-year farm bill in June, and the?House Agriculture Committee?followed with a version in July.

But the?House?bill, with large cuts in food-stamp funding for lower-income Americans, has never been brought to a vote by the full?House. The?Senate?and?House?have for months remained far apart on the issues of food stamps and crop subsidies.

Lucas said the year-long extension "provides certainty to our producers and critical disaster assistance to those affected by record drought conditions."

It would also mean another round of the direct subsidies to farmers that cost about $5 billion a year, and that both sides of debate had agreed earlier to eliminate.
